Forefront client symlinkd files RRS feed

  • Question

  • 2 users on our college network were infected with a virus/malware that has converted all the files in the \Program Files\Microsoft Security Client folder into symlinkd files. Cannot uninstall Forefront using Programs and Features in the control panel nor using appwiz.cpl, get access denied. When I try to reinstall Forefront on 1 of the PCs I get an error FEP is already installed and on the other FEP starts to install then quits. If I try to delete any files from the MSC folder I get accessed denied. Have changed ownership and permissions to local admin account which I have logged in with but still cannot move, delete, open or rename any of these files. Any way to change these files back or is it a wasted effort? Running Win7sp1, all updates and FEP 2010. Also had the same issue with an XPsp3 system that converted the same files to junction points.
