copy list item to New folder in Document library RRS feed

  • Question

  • HI

    I have a sharepoint list that my users attach pdf file to each item in this list, now I want to move these items to New folder in New Document library through

    Site Actions->Manage Content and Structure.

      Choose the list, click the choice box of the items i need to add to the folder.

       Click Actions->Move, choose the new folder.

    but it give me this error:

    Folders cannot contain non-file type items.

    How I can move these item in my list to new folder in document library?

    Thanx.

  • I've no doubt this could be achieved by Programming of some kind but I'm fairly sure there is no out-of-the-box way of doing this.

    There will be a lot of people who smiled broadly at this.

    Sorry but (the reason for their grins) the programming side of SP isn't my thing.

  • Whereas a non-Document Library list can contain attachments a Document Library cannot.

    Therefore it is impossible to move an item containing an attachment from a normal list to a document library. I doubt if the fact that this is a folder is in this case the problem - the problem is the fact that the folder is in specifically a document library.

  • I've used a 3rd party tool CopyMove in the past to move list items including attachments from one site collections to another - but have not tried between list and libraries. They have 30 days free evaluation - you can give this a try.
