Best MS Project option for small academic and business projects. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am a part-time post graduate student and full-time project analyst. I am looking for a basic version of MS Project for helping me to manage my post-grad projects and also to use in my role coordinating project deliverables for a small team of HR professionals. I use a MS Surface Pro for my studies and for about half of my business activities. The other half of my business activities I use a desktop. The desktop has MS Project 2010 loaded which is fine however I need to be able to access and update my projects from my tablet when away from my desk or in classes.

Can anyone recommend the best option for me? I know very little about Project online or Project Server. I'm willing to invest a little money in something which afford me the ability to work remotely.

    Thanks.

    Nick.

  • With minimising cost as the objective, and since your tablet is a Surface Pro, you should be able to load Project Pro onto this tablet and place the MPP files onto your SkyDrive.

This way you can update the MPP files on either device.

You don't mention needing to collaborate with others, so this strategy would be a lower cost than getting into Project Online or Project Server on-prem.

    Cheers,

  • Thanks James. Yes, collaboration with others isn't a priority. The scale of my projects means that they can be managed centrally (by me). I will check out Project Pro.
