Web Professional Install Issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are moving from a 6.3 server to 6.3 server with hot fix .2215 and the client machine can not down load the hot fix successfully from the Download mgr. To isolate the issue I tried removing the previous 6.3 client install (add/remove programs didn't work so I went through the registry entries) and then installing from the .exe directly. It looked like two install mgrs came up. And the install mgr aborted with the same message that the user got from the download mgr. So, I can not cleanly uninstall the old web pro app and I can't install 6.3 without getting this error. Please let me know what should be the next steps. • PCDS5.dll is the main component of the Admin Tool.  It should not be at all dependent on the PDownloadManager, or vice versa, as those two perform very different functions.

Also, I just tested it, and PCDS5 registers without an issue using regsvr32 from the command line.

  • Hi Kate,

That sounds like a bit of a mess.  You're probably best to uninstall all of the ProClarity software, go through the manual remove steps to clean up the files and registry entries, then reboot.  First install Desktop Professional 6.3.  If you see an error at this point on the screen, what is it?  After 6.3 is installed and working you can then apply the hotfix.  What is the exact error message they're seeing from the download manager?

  • Kate, we've seen this error a couple of times before.  It is an install shield error and usually has to do with a outdated or corrupt InstallShield engine.  Updating or re-installing InstallShield would be my recommended next steps.

    hope this helps,

  • Sean,

This fixed one machine.  The other is now getting a message saying that the download manager can not be installed.  Any ideas on this one?

  • Another question for you regarding use of the Download Manager.  Talking with our desk top support folks it sounds like we don't need to monitor the install shield versions since all our scripts embed their own correct version.  Is there a way to easily include an install sheild with the download manager install?

  • For the download manager stuff, you should check out this thread:  http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3599982&SiteID=17

Regarding distributing install shield with the download manager, apologies, but I do not know of a way to do that.

  • Ok, this is popping up on a number of machines.

-- This appears to register correctly.

    PDownloadManager.dll

    -- This file does not?

    PCDS5.dll

One of our Windows Services guys looked to see which dlls weren't registering.  It appeared that the PDownloadManager.dll was there but that it also needed the second one and that wouldn't accept the regsvr32 command.  Manual registry attemps fail.

I have the PDC log from one of the machines that is not working shown below.
