Moving MOSS 2007 Prod farm entire DB's from Cluster DB Instance to a standalone VM DB server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Team,

We have a requirement in MOSS 2007 SP3 to move all Prod farm DB's from SQL cluster instance to a standalone brand new VM DB server since the cluster DB instance has an issue and can't provide the high availability functionality. Following are the different kind of DB's available in the Prod farm

    1) Config DB

    2) Central Admin DB

    3) Content DB

    4) Shared Service Provider DB

    5) Search DB

Could you please let us know the procedure to be followed in migrating all the farm DB's from cluster instance to the standalone VM DB server like

    1) What should be the sequence of DB's migrated?

    2) How to change the DB server references in the config DB from cluster instance to standalone DB server host name?

    3) What steps need to be followed for all the WFE's and Index server level?

    4) What services need to be brought down before starting with the DB's migration?

    5) Do we need to create SSP again referring the DB located on the new DB server after DB migration from cluster instance to standalone DB server?

    Thanks in advance.
