  • Windows will automatically try to activate when you’re connected to the Internet. If you have problems activating online, you can activate using the phone.

To activate Windows 8.1 using an Internet connection:

    1. Select the Start button , type PC settings, and then select PC settings from the list of results.
    2. Choose Activate Windows.
    3. Type your Windows 8.1 product key, select Next, and follow the instructions.

To activate Windows 8.1 by phone:

    1. Select the Start button , enter PC settings, and then select PC settings from the list of results.
    2. Select Activate Windows, and then select Contact customer support for help. You may be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.
    3. Select your location (or the location nearest you) from the drop-down list, and then select Next.
    4. Call one of the available phone numbers listed. An automated system will guide you through the activation process.

  • Hi,

a Product ID determines the type of support and channel the software originated from.

Microsoft licenses Windows to different product channels:

    Retail, OEM, Volume License, Academic.

The Product ID helps to determine the level of support you are entitled to.

The product key consist of 25 letters and numbers (alphanumeric). The Product key pairs your license to your machine.

The product key can be found in multiple places depended on how you obtained Windows.

If you purchased a retail license, you can find the product key within the product box. The Windows 8/8.1 product key is found on a small business size card.

If your computer came preinstalled with an OEM version, look for the Certificate of Authenticity sticker attached to the chassis of your computer. Normally this can be at the side or top of the system unit. For laptops, look at the bottom of the chassis or inside the battery or memory compartment.
