Speaker help!!!!

  I bought some external speakers for my laptop. when you plug the speakers in the sound still come out of the laptop. I've tried everything and I accidently disabled my speakers and dont know how to get it back. If someone could help me with this I would really appreciate it! I been looking up for help on the interent for an hour and im getting a little frustrated lol
