Problem with installing ANY Internet Explorer RRS feed

  • Question

  • System Information:

    1. Name: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
    2. Version6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Compilation 7601
    3. Type: x64-based PC

I've had some ongoing problems with this servers like forever, but those were minor issues, but since a year or more I've noticed I cannot install Internet Explorer 11. Version installed at that time was IE9. After trying couple of things found here and there - mostly on technet I found an article recommending uninstalling previous version of IE, then restarting and installing IE11. Article mentioned is here:

Then I used steps described here: to completly remove it.

After restart some errors started to appear, and it seems I cannot even run MMC or SQL Server Management Studio since IE is required for them.

I thought ok, now I can install IE 11 at least.

    But no.

    More problems

It appears that IE 11 requires some updates (perquisites) one of them is KB2834140 (found it in IE11_main.log), which apparently was missing from my system. So i downloaded it from Microsoft (windows6.1-kb2834140-v2-x64.msu). However I cannot install it because when executing it says "This update does not apply to this computer".

    Even more madness

So I thought - hell, I can install IE9 again, right. But no. Not even IE8 or IE7. Even downloading appropriate version ends in message Internet Explorer doesn't support your version of operating system.

I'm loosing my mind at the moment. Is there some hope?
