Word 2016 Randomly Opens Files as Read-Only RRS feed

    I've been having this issue for some time, but only on 1 pc on our network (approx. 35 PC's in all). What happens is, from within Word, or just from Windows Explorer, the user navigates to the shared folder on the network for their department (permissions have been verified and are fine) picks a word file to open then clicks on it to open, sometimes it opens read-only, sometimes not. It seems completely random. We have updated this user from Office 2010 to 2016 to try and eliminate the problem, but it persists. Nothing from the forums so far has resolved the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

    the file will be locked and come up read only if the file in use by another application or user.
