Exchange 2007 support for an Outlook 2013 client

    Question

  • We are initiating a project to upgrade our Office 2007 suite to Office 2013. We are running an Exchange 2007 server on the backend.

There seems to be some conflicting information in different articles that we've found on Technet. This article seems to indicate that Exchange 2007 is not supported if we upgrade our Outlook clients to 2013:  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/845.outlook-versions-supported-by-exchange-200720102013online.aspx?PageIndex=2

However, this article seems to indicate that our Exchange 2007 would remain in support:  https://technet.microsoft.com/library/ff728623(v=exchg.150).aspx

Which is the truth? I've been running a trial version of Outlook 2013 against our Exchange 2007 server, and I've had no problems whatsoever, but we do not want to be out of compliance with our Microsoft support agreement.

    Thanks!

The first one said Exchange 2010 didn't support Outlook 2013 and I'm pretty sure that is false as well (We were running Office 2013 with Exchange 2010 for over a year and we have people who are sticklers making sure things are supported).

  • Hi,

Based on my knowledge, Outlook 2013 is supported if you use Exchange 2007 SP3 or later version. I recommend you refer to the following article, it was last modified at November 5, 2014.
