Can error 0x80072ee2 be caused by low disk space? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I've taken over a WSUS solution that was set up by another company. As far as I know it was working previously. We attempted to remove this and switch to a 3rd party solution (LabTech) but due to issues with the proxy requiring authentication we decided to switch back to the WSUS. I'm now seeing errors in the windows update log.

All of the clients are checking in and I can see the SimpleAuth page load when I browse to http://server.fqdn:port/SimpleAuthWebService/SimpleAuth.asmx on the client so there does not appear to be connectivity issues. I'm seeing the 0x80072ee2 error in the event logs which I believe means the connection is timing out. The drive containing the updates has 7.8% free space, could this cause the connection to time out?

Also, the logs seem to show that the wsus server is being picked up (I've obscured the address below) but is then going to HTTPS://sls.update.microsoft.com to check for updates. Any idea what's going on here? I'm stumped!!

  • Hi,

    No,it shouldn't.

What is the current version of your WSUS? I have seen such a error message in windowsupdate.log with WSUS 3.2.

With windows 8 and windows server 2012 clients you need apply the following update:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2734608/an-update-for-windows-server-update-services-3.0-service-pack-2-is-available-kb2734608

The 0x80072ee2 error is an INTERNET TIMEOUT ERROR

If you enabled firewall on this server, make sure yon have added WUA in exception list or open the necessary port for communication.

also, please try following steps on thie computer:

    1. Stop the Automatic Updates service and BITS service.

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop bits

    2. Delete “%windir%\softwaredistribution” directory.

    3. Start the Automatic Updates service and BITS service. When these two services have been started, they will auto-create “softwaredistribution” and its subfolder at system directory.

    net start wuauserv

    net start bits

    4. After the “%windir%\softwaredistribution” directory has been generated, please let the client contact the WSUS server immediately.

    wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

    5. After 15 minutes, please check the client to confirm whether it detects needed updates.
