Windows 10 Enterprise - 0XC004F213 Activation Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I'm having trouble with the activation of Windows 10 Enterprise on one of my users systems.

Windows shows the message Windows is not activated, click here to go to settings on the bottom right.

In the settings it shows the following:
    ----------------------

    Edition: Windows 10 Enterprise

Subscription Windows 10 Enterprise subscription is active

    Activation: Windows is not activated

Windows reported that no product key was found on your device. Error code: 0xC004F213
    -----------------------

I've tried the Troubleshoot tool but it doesn't find anything to fix and suggests to find help here.
I've done an autopilot reset to see if that fixes it but unfortunately the activation message comes back immediately.

The PC is a custom build pc installed through a usb stick created by the Media Creation Tool.
The user has a Microsoft Enterprise E3 subscription assigned through the M365 Portal. (Yes Windows 10 Enterprise is active)

The PC is AzureADJoined and updated to Winver 2004

  • you mentioned this is a custom built pc, this may mean that it doesn't have a product key pre-loaded into firmware on motherboard (usually done by large vendors)

you can check via : wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

in Volume Licensing and M365, the Windows licenses are upgrades, which require an underpinning license to exist. This requirement is normally met, by the OA3x or OA2 key stored in firmware.

you will need to supply the applicable OEM pkey for the device, or an equivalent qualifying pkey.

  • Thank you,

After reading up on those sites it became clear I made an error of assumption, thinking the Windows 10 E3 subscription license alone was enough to activate, it also requires a Windows 10 pro license on the device besides it.

  • Hi,

    You're right,

To use Windows 10 Enterprise E3 license, you must have the following:

Windows 10 Pro, version 1607 (Windows 10 Anniversary Update) or later, installed and activated, on the devices to be upgraded

Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) available for identity management

You could refer to the requirements from this article:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/windows-10-enterprise-e3-overview

Hope above information can help you.
