Is Face Authentication available in 19H1 for user Administrator? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Face Authentication is working fine for all local users. But for Administrator user I'm not able to do the Enrollment. The Enrollment fails and in Event Viewer I see the following crash:

Is there a special setting in Policies for Administrator user to let it do the enrollment for Face Authentication?

  • I have the feeling it is MSFT design. I got the same crash trying to do finger print enrollment for user Administrator.

  • Yes, you are right. Built-in Administrator unable to do the ginger print Enrollment or Face Authentication.

But for the user account which is included in Administrator group, check if you disabled the following GPO

User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account

Enable this GPO and test again.

  • For user accounts already included in Administrators group, I don't have any problem. Biometrics enrollment for them works fine (Face Authentication and Finger print). My problem is with user Administrator. In 1809 (RS5) the Setup button for Enrollment is greyed out. In 1908 (19H1) the Setup button is active. So, that's why I'm confused.

Shouldn't the Setup button be greyed out like in 1809 (RS5)? Is it a bug?

  • Ok, if your machine is domain joined, the button should be greyed out.

Please feedback this situation to Microsoft via built-in Feedback Hub app, I am also going to submit this case via our channel. Thanks a lot.
