Making a copy of a VM for Migration ?

    Question

  • I am trying to clone a VM in Hyper-V on Server 2012 R2. The purpose is to test moving this existing server into a new domain and make some other changes to the Sharepoint website front end which is on the server.

What I'd like to do is to make a copy of the VM by exporting it to a new folder.  The next steps I believe are as follows, does this look right?

Go to the settings of the specific VM and set the network adapter to not connected. I then put the machine into a work group, rename it, set the network adapter to the external connection and join it to my domain with the new name.  The MAC address should be different after I export the VM, correct?

    Thanks!!

  • Hi Sir,

There should be no issue if you Join that VM to another domain .

You can manually change MAC address for that VM or remove that NIC then add a new one if the MAC address was not changed .

If I were in your shoes , I would follow what you are going to do .

Hope it is helpful to you .

    Best Regards,

    Elton
