An attempt was made to logon, but the network logon service was not started - Windows update RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Today I am having many of my windows 7 machines reporting the following error when trying to log into the domain

An attempt was made to logon, but the network logon service was not started

Overall, the only changes that have been made were the past windows updates that ran today.

Is anyone aware of a fix for this issue?

I am troubleshooting now, but hoping to save some time by asking on the forums.

    Thanks

  • Hi vs2017sv,

    Thanks for posting your query.

As the error mentioned, please check if the network logon service is disabled:

    1. Type service.msc in search box and enter.

    2. In the right list, find the Netlogon service and set it to start.

    3. Check if the issue solved.

    Best regards,

    Yilia

  • Service fails to start.

I noticed that the workstation service also will not start.

I ran a restore point back to 12/09 and the machine seems to be working fine since re-applying windows updates.

At this point, I have yet to pinpoint exactly what caused this

  • Hi,

Do you mean that after a restore and updates, the issue disappeared?

Anyway, I am glad to hear that your issue was successfully resolved.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please feel free to post in the forum.
