Moving Exchange Binary files from one drive to another RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've checked several methods online of how to go about moving the binary files from one drive to another for Exchange, and seen several methods...IF the server is 2007.

What I'm needing to find out is if the same "rules/suggestions" apply to Exchange 2010.

For example, I've got my binary files on D:.  I have my datbase file on F:.  I'm needing to technically get rid of the D: drive altogether...

Suggestions on how to go about this with 2010?

  • Removing and reinstalling is the only way I know to do it.

You could shut down Exchange, install the new drive and call it F:, copy everything from D: to F:, change the drive letter assignments so that the new drive is D:, and then restart Exchange.  You'd have to move your databases and logs back to D:, to make that work.
