AD FS 2016 FBL RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently running a AD FS 2012R2 farm in Azure running in ASM
    - 2x WAP servers (2012R2)
    - 2X ADFS servers (2012R2)

Due to several problems we're planning to setup a new AD FS 2016 farm in ARM. Looked at migrating the resources to the ARM model but it's easier to setup a new farm and we want to get rid of the old configuration.

These means after installing the new AD FS farm there will be 2 farms active. I've been reading about the farm behavior level and i'm not sure how this will impact the installation. From what i've been reading it only applies to the farm itself (it's in the name) and therefore it won't impact the 2012R2 farm?

My question is: can i setup a new AD FS 2016 farm in the same domein and use the 2016 FBL while the AD FS 2012R2 farm is still running?

  • There would be two separate deployment. They share nothing in common. So you can have a 2012 R2 farm and another one running 2016. Note that you need the ADDS 2016 schema to use the 2016 FBL.
