Assigning a Mandatory local User Profile RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello
    Thanks for reading my post
We are on a Windows domain (2008) with Windows 7 work stations

We have some Windows 7 computers in our training room that take a long time to login. We would to to try setting up Mandatory local User Profiles
    to achieve
    1. Fast logon
    2. All students get the same background and settings etc
Is it possible to make a local profile a Mandatory profile ( so when our domain users log on windows don't need to create a  profile when someone logs in - helping with log in speeds)

We don't use roaming profiles here so it would need to be local rather then roaming based

I have tried to use http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973289/en-us - and changed the profile path the a local folder rather then the DC

    anyone got any thoughts

  • Hi Thomas

    it is possible:

    - use System panel to copy your Default Profile to a Folder e.g. c:\users\mandatory.V2

    - permissions erveryone.

    - rename ntuser.dat - ntuser.man. / Folder = readonly to make it mandatory

use (local) GPO gpedit.msc to set policy "Set roaming profile path for all users logging onto this computer " to c:\users\mandatory  (without V2)

with Windows 2012/8 you also have the "Primary Computer" Setting.

With Windows 7 you could also try and use pgina.org together with the Gateway plugin to allow users Logon independently from AD.

    regards
