    Deleting the site using stsadm is fine, so this a sharepoint problem or iis and webfront end problem.

    Can someone shed me some light please

    Thank you,

  • Hi,

    According to your narration, you can delete the site by using stsadm command, however, it failed when you delete the site through GUI.

    There are several reasons for this issue, I list them as follows:

    • UAC Enabled on the machine
    • Opening the browser without elevation

    Firstly, check if you turn on the User Access Control (UAC) on the servers, if so, please disable them, then check the effect.

    Secondly, launch Internet Explorer as Administrator (Right-click Internet Explorer, select “Run as Administrator”), then check the effect.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

    I had the same error, and found out that the Service Pack 1 release gave me the error. So after searching and trying it didn't help me.

    So I downloaded the June CU refresh and installed it on my farms. And that did the trick. No errors regarding the message: Operation method is not supported.

    The June CU Refresh can be downloaded from here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbln=en-us&kbnum=2536599 -> SharePoint Foundation

    http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbln=en-us&kbnum=2536599 -> SharePoint Server 2010

    http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbln=en-us&kbnum=2536600 -> SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server

    Hopefully this will help,

    Regards

  • Well I downloaded the hotfix yet when I run it on the server I get the message that the hotfix would not affect any installed products and nothing is installed.  Im running Sharepoint 2010 and Ive already installed SP1.

    Looking in the logs the correlation ID reveals nothing but:

    08/10/2011 10:56:46.20 w3wp.exe (0x0BC8) 0x145C SharePoint Foundation Logging Correlation Data xmnv Medium Name=Request (POST:http://****/_layouts/deleteweb.aspx?Subweb=TestSite&view=all)

    No real error that I see.  I can delete the site using powershell or via the sitemanager page but not through the siteactions menu.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • In my case the problem turned out to be that even though I had installed service pack 1 I had not gone back and run the sharepoint configuration tool to actually upgrade the server. Once I did that it fixed the problem.

  • Whew... that did it for me also!  Thanks a lot man, saved me some headaches!

  • I think it is necessary to upgrade the databases as well - it can be done by running the Sharepoint 2010 product configuration wizard. Important is that the databases do not run in compatibility mode anymore. Check this KB article
