When physical server is shut down via power setting and battery status Hyper-V machines are switched off unexpectedly. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am having the following configuration:
A physical Server Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V and VMs are also Windows Server R2.
A APC UPS is connected to the physical server. USB Cable is connected, a driver is installed and in lower right corner of the screen I can see the Icon of the battery and actual status.

On the physical server I have configured power options as follows:
    - Critical battery level: 98%
    - Critical battery event: Shut down.
    VM are configured as follows:
Automatic stop action: Save the virtual machine state. When I unplug the power cable from the physical server and battery goes below 98% physical server is properly shut down.
    Problem:
VMs are in switched off state after that and after restart I can see that they were shut down unexpectedly. - I changed settings for VMs to “Shut down the guest operating system”; but I do also not get a proper shut down on the VMs

    - I installed KB2887595 but this did not solve the problem. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2896800
    - When I manually shut down the physical server VMs are in saved sate afterwards or properly shut down, depending on the setting in Hyper-V Manager.

When physical server is shut down via power setting and battery status Hyper-V machines are switched off unexpectedly.

Does anyone have an idea or solution?

Thank you for any tip already in advance.
