Doc Open Behavior RRS feed

  • Question

  • Simple doclib, no must checkout. IE 8

    http://site/web/DocLib19/docfolder/docname.doc

    1) When i get manually into http://site/web/DocLib19/docfolder and click doc it opens, and asks if i want to edit (yellow header)

    2) When i copy paste whole link (http://site/web/DocLib19/docfolder/docname.doc) into browser it asks if a want to open it or save it. If i open it there is no yellow stripe in the top asking if i want to edit document and after editing and trying to save, it asks me for a path i want to save.

So in second scenario when i open doc, word forgets about its whereabouts. Can this be fixed ?

  • 1. When you navigate to file through the library and click on document you execute javascript code (in background), which sends special comands to start word and open file. Word opens file from SharePoint library.

    2. When you navigate directly by url you jast download and open the file. Word opens file from local temp folder

  • Ok why then in another Doclib it is ok? I just tested: pasted Doclib2 URL and it opened in Word being connected to sharepoint.

Also you do not need some extra JS to indicate documents link to sharepoint library. Everything needed is in the URL.
