When will MSFT release a version of Hyper-V that launch VM's right at the Hyper-V console itself? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hyper-V is meant to be manage remotely, thus, CoreConfig and subsequently CoreFig projects was born. Though impressive, it is not stable, poorly documented and lacks the above feature.

I believe the necessary code are already in place, (e.g. XP Mode). It's the economic incentive that will probably hinder such implementation. MSFT may opt to limit VMs support to Windows OSes only. However, as the attack surface of a Hyper-V is limited plus other established benefits, it would be a long term evolution for MSFT to explore this path as the standard distribution of future Windows iteration. (More on this later.)

Anyway, here is the simplest concept: Hyper-V 2012 booted to tiled desktop, no taskbar. Options that are available to remotely manage Hyper-V are available in tiled form. Installed VMs' appear on each individual tile and can be launch locally to its own window. Probably, Ctrl+W will effect selection between VMs' windows.

Such an implementation is not akin to Boot Manager function, as Boot Manager can only manage to load one OS at a time.

The current work around is booting to Standard OS (XP-Win8, Server 2008+-2012), then run VMs within an OS which imposes risk/issues to the host OS.
