Changing list properties on document save RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

My question is a fairly basic one, I want to confront a user with the same property window they get when uploading a document when they save a document. So, to explain a bit further, when a user uploads a document he or she is confronted with a dialog in which they can change a few properties. I want this same dialog to show when they save changes to the document.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The question is more important than the answer...

  • What type of document? Office documents (Office 2007 onwards) have something called a Document Information Panel, which you can configure in the content type settings.  You can also get this to show by default on the client machine too as far as I know.

What the DIP will do ios to present the metadata columns that are present in the library against that document.

If you want to do this outside of Office documents, I'm not sure how this might be achieved.

  • I don't know if I understood it correctly, but I think you want to change a document properties (the sames prop. from the dialog) when you save your document, supposing you already uploaded it and oppened to edit.

When you open a document, the editor (office suite) shows a panel with properties of the item (the sames prop. from the dialog) to you edit it.

Maybe it could be disabled for you. Try mark the fields as obrigatory.

If it is not this cenario, provide more details.

  • Hi Steven,

Thank you for your answer, the Document Information Panel is indeed a way to go. I'm not sure if it will be a viable option though because I don't think all the documents are office documents. My next train of thought is doing something with a checking in and out and showing the properties window before checking in.

    Tx again.
