Hi,These are likely going to cover the same content. The only difference isthat the 72-646 is offered to current students at a discount and cannotbe scheduled via the Prometric site (have to call their phone number)while the 70-646 is generally available to everyone and costs aredependent on where you take the exam. Seehttp://www.microsoft.com/learning/student-career/en/us/career-offer.aspxI had a situation when I took 070-640 (I took 083-640). The differencehere is that the 083-640 exam includes hands-on labs that you have tocomplete. These should show up the same on your MS transcript regardlessof the first two numbers because only the last numbers are listed (646and 640 respectively) and they should count the same towardscertification. If you are still unsure, you can contact the regionalsupport center or Prometric and they would probably have an answer.

If you are student you can save more than 55% of your Microsoft Certification.
For instance, The exam 70-516 TS: Accessing Data with Microsoft .NET Framework 4, cost normally $125 vs the student price is only $60 bucks!.
To apply this student discount, you have to enter the 72 code instead of the 70 code of the exam. this is the identifier for this discount 72-516 for 70-516. Both are the same, in content and quality, the only difference is the price. you can use 70-516 or 72-516 as prerequisite of MCPD exam. There is not any MCPD student discount version at least for 70-519 Web Developer.
This also apply for 70-646 (72-646)
