  • You can "emulate" this behaviour by configuring UPN suffixes so it matches with your user´s email addresses. Once you´ve done this you should change the UPN for each user (by default it uses the domain name). Then you must change your owa virtual directory logon format to use UPN.

    Step 1. Add UPN suffixes:
    From http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772007.aspx:

    1. Open Active Directory Domains and Trusts. To open Active Directory Domains and Trusts, click Start , click Administrative Tools , and then click Active Directory Domains and Trusts .
    2. In the console tree, right-click Active Directory Domains and Trusts , and then click Properties .
    3. On the UPN Suffixes tab, type an alternative UPN suffix for the forest, and then click Add .
    4. Repeat step 3 to add additional alternative UPN suffixes.

Step 2. Configure your users to use the new UPN:

This can be done using several tools, if you want to do it in bulk you can check this script: http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Sync-Primary-Email-Address-a1d989cb

Example using Active Directory Users and Computers:
    1. Go to the user properties and select the account tab
    2. Modify user logon name to match your email address

Step 3. Change your OWA logon format:

This case applies to all your OWA virtual directories if you have more than one:

    1. Open the EMS (Exchange Management Shell) and run the following one liner:

     Get-OWAVirtualDirectory | Set-OWAVirtualDirectory -LogonFormat "PrincipalName" -confirm:$false

  • Hi,

Base on my knowledge, it is impossible to access OWA using email address.

If you donot want to use "domain\user name" to login to OWA, you can use UPN or "Domain\User ID" to instead of it.

Here is a similar thread for your reference:

Enable users to access OWA using their e-mail address

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks.
