SCCM client stopped installing on any machines RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,
We have been using sccm for over an year, currently on version 1610.
we have noticed  past 1 month SCCM clients are not been installed on any new machines and we have done basic troubleshooting such as :
    - making sure the boundary groups are correct
    - DNS name for the clients are correct
    - No firewall on client and server ( turned off )
    - Both client can reach each other via UNC
    - Account used for client push have full administrator rights on client machines
we still have no luck in getting this working . I am pasting the log from a client machine ccmsetup log file. Can you direct us here please.

  • It's seems manageemnt point is not working, have you checked the log file on IIS.

check this in IIS log file CCM_POST 'HTTP://swiis-sccm01/ccm_system/request is there is 404 then that means MP is not working ad IIS has some problem,

    404 is directory not found.

  • Hi Sharad,

Thanks for prompt reply. yes i get a "HTTP Error 404. The requested resource is not found." when browse to that url.

am looking at the IIS logs and i cannot see any errors. But in event viewer i have lots of "An error occurred while using SSL configuration for endpoint 0.0.0.0:443.  The error status code is contained within the returned data." error. Not sure if it is relevant.

on IIS event ( in event viewer )only error i see is "

The description for Event ID 5161 from source Microsoft-Windows-WAS cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event: 1 "

    Thanks

  • If that is then there is solution remove the MP, remove the IIS, adn then remove all the folders and regestry of MP then install IIS and again install the MP.

means change from HTTPS to HTTP

but before uninstall the IIS make sure there is no DP installed, otherwise you will get trouble for DPs as well.

so make sure before do all the things

  • Hi Sharad,

Thanks for the input. we have decided to rebuild SCCM completely on Azure VM ( we were planning to migrate the current server anyways ).

Do you have any suggestions or advise on this please ?

    Thanks,

  • If you are going to use Azure then there is nothing change,

you have to do some practice on what bandwidth you have and how client will communicate. are you going to use express route ? or what else, for connectivity you have to create VPN gateway all the thing you have to consider.

and also you would require a site server at on premise if you are not going to use express route or you dont have good bandwidth

  • Hi Sharad,

we do not have express route. What if we use PKI of SCCM ( SCCM server will have a public IP ) and clients will communicate over internet to SCCM please ?

and we have a DFS set for all SCCM deployment folders replicating to local sites DC's ( which we will schedule for over night and limit the bandwidth )

    Thanks

  • It's not only for download the content, there is mater of how client will communicate, how they will send the policies and inventory if you do not have another site server at on premise?

if you dont have then your all clients will directly communicate with the site which is at Azure and your network will use high. so you would have to have a site server at on premise then only that site server will communicate with primary site which is at on Azure and that will also consume some network, which you can't manage for example site to site and drs and all.

so do proper planning and get it touch with MS also about the solution  to avoid any hurdle after implement the sccm on azure.

  • If we publish the public IP of sccm server externally and use a certificate to secure the connection ( https ). will that fix the issue of clients to communicate with server  ( management point server )please ?

in azure on public interface of VM we have speed of 100Mbps and  not worried about the cost of download it will take ( considering in azure upload to VM is free ).

  • Hi Sharad,

Just to update on the original incident reported. I have done your suggested fix and it appears to have fixed the client installation issue, thank you.

i have followed one more thread ,

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/145bfbef-fa0a-4eae-a82d-c54ee383e89e/sccm-mp-issue?forum=configmgrgeneral

    To summarise the fix was:

    1. Uninstall the management point.

    2. Uninstall the IIS component.

    3. Restart the computer.

    5. Install IIS component, and enable BITS.

    6. Restart the computer ( keep an eye on event logs for ssl related error, if then reassign right certificate on IIS bindings. )

    7. Add back management point.

*please note: if you have software update point on the site server , It needs to be removed and re installed.
