To copy some, overwrite all or not to overwrite AMDX files?

    Question

  • We have our AMDX files stored in the Central Store in a mixed 2003\2008 domain.  These were installed a few years ago.  We are starting to deploy Windows 10, but still have a mix of older client systems  (inc. XP, Vista, 7 and 8\8.1).  I've just downloaded the Windows 10 Policy Definition files and just want to confirm the correct process for copying these over.

I can see there are more ADMX files in the Win10 download than in our policy definition folder, so do I just copy over those amdx files from the download that don't exist in the policy definitions folder?  Or do I copy all of the files over and overwrite the existing ones?  If I do that will I risk updating\changing existing definition files to the point where existing GPO's break (i.e. do MS change the definition files)?  If that is a possibility how should I proceed with this now and how should I be keeping this up to date in future?

    Thanks in advance
