What happens if I create the appdata\roaming\microsoft\word\startup folder myself and don't wait for the creation of it? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We need to deploy a Word add-in to all users, so the best way would be to use a script that puts it into the Startup folder once the users logs in. Problem is, the Startup folder only appears after the user starts Word at least one time, but this is not a given. The add-in needs to be installed, no matter when the user starts Word for the first time.

So, my idea is just create the Startup folder myself through a script.

Are there any problem with this? Will Word behave "odd"?

  • Nothing will happen. Word always tries to open the STARTUP folder first and only if this fails with "NAME NOT FOUND", then the folder is created. If it's already there - fine.
