office 2013 - removing 2010 - avoid Shutting down open 2010 programs RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

    pretty much as topic..

when deploying office 2013 via sccm to users.. the setup will, without warning, close any 2010 programs that are open.

    How can I avoid this?

  • In 2012 you can give conditions to uninstall 2010 before installing 2013. anyway two different versions are not needed on any machines.. so you can run the Uninstall for Office 2010 before running the 2013 office version. Then there is no question of closing out the 2010 apps.  If you want to push 2013 with out uninstalling or something.. you can use the application packaging tools like "install shield or Wise packaging studio to add the custom dialog boxes before starting the 2013 office install.

  • Hi,

You can use for instance PS App Deployment toolkit to prompt the user to close all open office applications before installation. http://psappdeploytoolkit.codeplex.com/

It can also check that it actually closed, you can also customize the message to the users and much more.

  • If you're removing Office 2010 prior installing 2013, there's no way to leave the 2010 apps open. How about specifying that 2013 will only install when there's no user logged on? You can configure this from the application's (assuming you're using ConfigMgr 2012 and the Application model instead of old-school packages) deployment type properties.
