sql installation. Where is it? How? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Just received dpm2012 R2 in order to install on windows 2012 r2

I'm used to installing SQL server as part of the installation process.

I notice dpm  R2 does not do that. I thought I had it solved when I noticed the ISO has a SQL distribution folder.

It looked like it was installing something but it was noticeable that despite the 15 mins it took to install it didn't prompt about user accounts or even the DB name. I guess that whatever was on the DPM iso it was not what I needed to install.

So where is , SQL server 2012??  DO I have to pay?

is there a 2012 express edition I need?

In all deployments you’ll need the following:

    • Instance of SQL Server installed and running for the DPM database. The instance can be collocated on the DPM server or remote.
    • Disk to be used as dedicated space for DPM data storage.
    • DPM protection agent installed on computers and servers you want to protect using DPM.

i guess you can install SQL2012 Express

  • Hi,

You will need to use a pre-installed SQL server instance, or install a new SQL Server instance using your own SQL Server media of the supported SQL Server versions Supported by DPM 2012 R2.

The License is included in System Center 2012 R2 As per:
