  •

Ok I have compiled all my PC's problems into the one post.  Microsoft offers really short online support subscription support so i'v come here

Here are 6 Problems I am having.  Can any one offer any help or advice to solving these problems?

    PC Details
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 Beta v.275 32-bit
    Dell Dimension 5150
    Pentium D Dule Core Processor
    1GB RAM
    McAfee SecurityCenter
Upgraded from Windows XP Media Center Edition
Please not all these problems were present pre SP1 update.

    1.  Windows Media Center fails to find my TV card (Hauppauge PVR 150), Media Center Receiver Service stops working.
This happens when I go into Media Center and attempt to set up TV.  TV worked fine with XP Media Center but has never worked with Vista.
I recieve numerous error reports and Media center says "TUNER NOT FOUND - The TV signal cannot be configured because no tuner hardware is correctly installed.  If you do not have tuner hardware, you may purchase a tuner online from Windows Marketplace."

    2.  Microsoft Office 2003/2007 shortcuts wont open from the "recently opened programs list" in the Start menu.  No response.  These type of shortcuts only open from the start menu in the Office folder or the Desktop.
I can't open office applications if i search for them in 'start search'.  I've noticed by viewing the properties of shortcut of office files that Office .lnk files are different from most.
Perhaps a missing or corrupt registry value or security software blocking something?

    3.  DirectX Diagnostic Tools (dxdiag) stops working when dxdiag is run and attempts to access DirectShow (test dxdiag does on start of program).  DxDiag says “DxDiag has detected that there may have been a problem accessing DirectShow the last time this program was used. Would you like to bypass DirectShow this time?”
If I click ‘Yes’ DxDiag appears to run normally.  If I click ‘No’ DirectX Diagnostic Tool crashes.

    4.  When I browse to a folder that has Video files (eg .avi) (especially if there is many of them and they are large in size) I get the following error coming up constantly.  I think it might have something to do with windows generating a preview.
    I have DivX Installed.

    5.  When I attempt to view the properties of a hard drive I get no response.  I can't view my hard disk's properties!  I can view the properties of my CD drive though.

  • Sorry, this is not a Vista SP1 troubleshooting forum. If you are an authorized SP1 beta tester, visit the Microsoft Connect web site for instructions on how to access the Vista SP1 beta newsgroup.
