UWF causing Windows Recovery Error: 0xc000000e RRS feed

  • Question

  • Recently I've been trying to use UWF to protect a public facing PC within our network. Before enabling UWF there are no errors at all, everything is working as required. Once enabled however, I receive a recovery error stating, "Your PC couldn't start properly. A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. Error Code: 0xc000000e.

PC a Dell Optiplex 9050, running the latest version of Windows 10 Enterprise

Any ideas of what I can do to rectify this?

  • A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. Error Code: 0xc000000e.

This error message indicates that there is a hardware failure or a faulty drive configuration on your Windows computer

For current situation, boot computer into desktop is the first thing, try the following methods:

Check Physical Device Connections(just in case) Rebuild BCD.

    Run Windows Startup Repair.

    Reset BIOS/UEFI Configuration.

    Mark your Disk as Online.

    Detailed guide here:

From my search, UWF requires Windows 10 IoT Core or Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, if your PC use Windows 10 Enterprise, it must use Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC rather than Windows 10 Enterprise Semi-Annual, it is important.

We need to check Microsoft doc for how to turn on UWF on our PC.

    Unified Write Filter (UWF) feature
