Large WSUS Database RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All

We have a client with SBS 2008 and the SUSDB.MDF for WSUS is over 15 GB. WSUS content folder is empty

Have done all routine cleanups including declining superseded updates and WSUS cleanup.

Is there any other way to get the SUSDB database size down because this is located on the C drive and C drive is only 60GB in size.

    Thanks

  • Hi:

Suggest, and the risk of over symplifying, that you 1.  Move the WSUS database with the wizard.  2.  Add more space to the system partition as it will be cramped at best.  Thinking that if SBS 2008 the drives must be a few years old so new ones would be good insurance.

Check in the "change WSUS options" wizard or in the WSUS app and see if there are things selected for download that you can do without.  afaik you must select at least the following:

    Update   Classifications

    Critical Updates
      Definition Updates
      Security Updates
      Service Packs
      Update Rollups

BPA will tell you as well.
you can add more, you can't do less than that.

  • Hi Larry

    Thanks for your reply.

Will check the possibility of moving the WSUS database but if i m not mistaken move WSUS wizard under SBS console will only move the WSUS content folder and we need to manually move the SUSDB database right?

Also isnt there any way to reduce / Shrink the size of the database?I have already declined over 5000 Superseded updates and performed the WSUS cleaup but the size of the database is still the same.

    Regards
