Windows Server 2019 Standard - Recovery options RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, my name is Leandro, from Brazil.

I'm trying to create a restore point using the "Recovery" option from Control Panel. However, when I try to access the "Open System Recovery", the system return an error: "The system recovery could not be started".

Following the steps I already know from Windows 10, on Advanced system properties, the tab "System Protection" could not be found.

Is there any way to enable the "Recovery" function? I watched a video where an user was running a Windows Server 2016 Preview, and on this video he was able to use these functions.

  • There is no restore point option for windows server. Instead you can either create a full or system state backup.

  • Thanks for the answer, Patrick!

Here is the link about the Windows Server 2016 Preview I told you:  http://cooperati.com.br/2016/05/30/restauracao-de-sistema-no-windows-server-2016-technical-preview/

Why was this feature removed from the OS?

  • I couldn't say. I think its a bug that the options show up when you search Control Panel for Recovery (remnant of desktop code). You can provide feedback to windows server product development team here on uservoice.

  • Hi,

While the Windows Server 2016 “Technical Preview (TP) 5" has had the option for restoring data via System Restore protection, Microsoft did not keep this option in the final release.

As such, we have only two built-in options:

    1. Windows Server Backup

    2. Shadow Copies

For giving feedback to Microsoft, please refer to Dave's link above.

    Best regards,
    Leon
