DPM2010 import tapes from other DPM2007-installation database RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've a DPM2010 installation with a HP6030 tapelibrary. 2x LTO3 tapesdrives, 30 slots.

A DPM2007 installation in the same AD forest, other domain will be removed. This DPM2007 server has a LTO4 tape attached. The LTO4 tape drive will be attached to the DPM2010 server.

Is it possible to import the DPM2007 tape-catalog-information directly from the DPM2007 database? Or should a really import the tapes by putting the in the single LTO4 drive?

  • HI,

You cannot import tapes directly from a DB of another DPM server.

DPM2010 can import and re-catalog tapes made by DPM 2007.  If the tapes were encrypted, you need to import the certificate from the DPM 2007 server that wrote the tape.

Right-click the Imported tape and select "Recatalog imported tape" Once cataloged, the tape contents should show up under the recovery tab under the EXTERNAL DPM TAPES, and you should be able to browse the contents and restore from there.

The restore options available will be limited to restoring to a network share or disk of any server that has an agent installed.  You cannot restore back to original location.

I have provided a few links for recataloging and identifying unknown tapes
