Cannot type in Press New Shortcut Key box in Word 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • In Word 2007, I was not able to TYPE in the "Press New Shortcut Key" box to assign a shortcut key to a symbol.

Insert menu - Symbol - choose one symbol - Click Shortcut Key.

In the Press new shortcut key box, I couldn't press a normal key such as "a", "5", or "ctrl+,". Only some function keys like "insert" or "alt+s" could appear in the "Press New Shortcut Key" box.

    Anybody helps me out? Thanks!

  • You can't assign to keys such as A or 5 in the Customize Keyboard dialog - it would make it impossible to enter ordinary text. You should be able to assign to

    - Function keys

    - Most keys combined with Ctrl and or Alt

  • Thanks for your reply.

I used to have "ctrl+,"+"c" for "ç". Now I can not type in the same combination. They just can not show up in the "Press New Shortcut Key" box.

  • I can type Ctrl+, then C in the Press new shortcut key box in Word 2010 without problem - but it is already assigned to ç by default...

  • Yeah I lost the default shortcut key combination for ç and some other characters. Now I want to have them back but just can not type in the box.
