WSUS DB trouble RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

I was reading how to perform maintenance on a WSUS DB:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc708594(WS.10).aspx

Like that article I was having trouble with the command.

I searched the internet for key words of the script and found that the PDF for WSUS Operations has the iformation in it:
    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=7328

"Unfortunate" for me that -> I assumed that the lines with information about the script were only referenced once. (I was searching for "MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\"
[which is actually referenced at least twice; once for "Migration" (Page 40) and once for "Maintenance" (Page 149)]

So..... The problem I have is, I started following the instructions for the migration:
    sqlcmd -S np:\\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query
    use master
alter database SUSDB set single_user with rollback immediate
    go
    sp_detach_db ‘SUSDB’
    go

When I realized what I was doing. I rebooted the server thinking that the DB would come up like it should. Now when I try to open the MMC for SUS there is an error at the top:
one or more update service components could not be contacted.......ContentSyncAgent, WSUSService.

I am hoping someone can tell me that the commands I followed above just need to be reversed somehow.
Also, would uninstalling WSUS and reinstalling it fix the problem?

    Hello,

You have detached the database; you can restart the server as often as you like, that don't change anything.

You have to attach the database again using sp_attach_db like:

EXEC sp_attach_db 'SUSDB', '... name of mdf file', '....name of ldf file'

  • I looked at the article. I checked my server, and the settings were already set that way (from how I can tell (since I am on a SBS11 server that is running a newer IIS)

  • Thanks,

I ran this and I think it's attached:

    C:\>sqlcmd -S np:\\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query
    1> use master
    2> EXEC sp_attach_db @dbname='susdb', @filename1='C:\WSUS\SUSDB\UpdateServicesDbFiles\SUSDB.mdf', @filename2='C:\WSUS\SUSDB\UpdateServicesDbFiles\SUSDB_log.ldf'

    3>exit

    However,
When I go into the MMC for 'Windows Server Update Services' right under the 'To Do' section it says:
One or more Update Service components could not be contacted. Check your server status and ensure that Windows Server Update Services is running. Non-running services: ContentSyncAgent, WSUSService.

Also, every now and then the UI will change to (hitting the 'Reset Server Node' does nothing)
