icacls path/T /grant username:F fails. Display shows "no access" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to segregate programs into separate folders and sub-folders, such as a folder for Applications, a folder for Utilities, a folder for Media\video, etc., so I don't wind up with an unmanageable single list showing all the programs. Simple task in WinXP by editing the Programs file in the Start Menu of the User, adding folders and moving programs into them. How to accomplish same in Win7 Pro? I have tried using the icacls as above and although it works successfully for "unblocked" folders it fails for both the Documents and Settings folder as well as the User\username\Start Menu folder.

  • Stumbled onto fix. Clicked Start - Right click Programs - click Open. On right side of window click Programs then click on Top Menu "Add Folder", etc. Easy but not very intuitive if you don't know wghere to go. Windows "Help" was not very useful.
