Dell 3115cn and Word 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We currently have 3 new systems about to be deployed but ran into a problem with a new printer in the office.

Systems are running Vista Business and Office 2007 SBE

    Printer is a Dell 3115cn.

When the printer is installed, Word 2007 will crash on load, the Vista recommended solution is to uninstall the Dell 3115cn driver. I do that Word works again. I have called Dell they claim that their driver has been tested and works with Vista, and that I should call Microsoft. I know this is a Dell issue but was wondering if anyone else knows of this problem and could suggest some solutions.

    Thank you

  • I know this is a late reply, but I found a solution to an almost identical problem.

For some Dell network printers (3110cn & 5100cn verified so far), the user will use a
program in the Office 2007 suite and when they go to print, once they select the
problematic printer in the print window, the program will crash. I don't know why
this is caused, but there is a solution that appears to work.

    1. Go to the Dell website and download the Vista version of the driver
    2. Run the executable to install the driver on their hard drive
    3. Go to "Control Panel" -> "Printers"
    4. Right-click in the "Printers" window
    5. Select "Run as administrator" -> "Server properties"
    6. Select the "Drivers" tab
    7. Highlight the problematic printer, then click "Add"
    8. Follow the on-screen instructions to add the appropriate printer driver
(Typically, use the PCL driver if possible)
    9. Click "Finish" (It is normal for this to take up to a minute to process)
