Windows 7 x64 RTM, USB problem, intel chipset RRS feed

  • Question

  • after a couple of hours bt/P2P torrent downloading, the usb devices (mouse, flash driver, voip adapter) get slow response. mouse point get jumping when moving, noise comes from usb voip phone, etc.
i have installed all latest driver (usb, intel chipset and nic)
stop downloading/reboot can recover the usb ports.

does not happen at the beginning of downloading.

    really need help, thanks.

    Windows 7 RTM, x64
    Intel P35, ICH9, abit ip35-e
    6GB ram
    nvidia 8800gt

i think it's similar with the nvidia chipset usb power issue, but not same. looks like after a while of P2P downloading, the usb ports lose power and cannot handle normal data transfer.

  • Hi,

Is the network adapter connected to a USB port? Do you happen to connect all these USB devices to a USB hub? In general, A USB hub has to re-calculate the time left before the next sof (end of the uframe); the small extra delay added by the hardware hub could make the transaction not handled as fast as a device directly connected to the host. If several devices are connected on the USB hub and working in parallel (for example, a webcam + a USB flash drive + a mouse), then the USB bandwidth is shared among the devices usage.

Moreover, how about switching to another generic mouse in stead of Microsoft Intellimouse? I noticed that you mentioned the problem doesn't occur with reducing the memory, I recommend you to re-map the memory card and see the result.

  • The USB port may be going to Sleep.  You can change the setting in the Power Options to prevent the USB from doing this.

  • Hi,

Do you download the files to the USB storage? Does this issue occur if you download other files other than the BT torrent? Let's try to download the files with IE Download. If the issue is related to power supply, how about disconnecting some USB devices and only connecting the mouse?

  • thanks for the reply.
no usb storage used. only a voip skype adapter and a microsoft intellimouse optical hung on the usb.
if i reduce the memory to 2gb or 3gb, it seams no problem at all.
i double check the ram with memtest 86, so i could not be memory modules problem.

  • Have you installed compatible voip driver and IntelliPoint 7.0 64-bit for Windows 7?

  • Hi Mike,

Did you try the 64-bit Vista drivers on their website?

    http://www.zoom.com/techsupport/voip/voip_skype_5900.shtml

I see that they just posted an updated package for Win7 32-bit within the last 2 weeks, so that looks like a good sign that the device is still getting support from Zoom.

  • Mike,

I've successfully gotten the Zoom Skype ATA Model 5900 to work under Windows 7 64x.  The following is the steps that occurred during the process.

    1. Attempted to install Zoom ATA Software from Zooms website. found that ATA would not register as connected.
    2. Uninstalled Zoom ATA Software.
    3. Removed/uninstalled Zoom ATA (VoIP Device) in device manager completely.
    4. ran windows update (there is an update for for the Zoom ATA) installation/update failed.
    5. Rebooted computer.
    6. Ran update again, successfully installing updates.
    7. Zoom ATA Registered successfully, test calls confirmed software running correctly.

  • James Tobias's findings don't seem to match what Zoom is currently saying at: http://www.zoom.com/techsupport/voip/voip_skype_5900.shtml

    Note the last line.

    Windows 7 (32-bit) – Version 1.41.0.62    12/14/09  36 MB
This self-extracting file contains the Phone Adapter driver software for Windows 7 32-bit computers. After you extract/unzip this file, open the newly created folder and refer to the Read_Me_First PDF document for installation instructions.
Please Note: This driver will run on most 32-bit installations of Windows 7. However, this driver is not certified for Skype in Windows 7 and is provided "as is." For this reason Zoom Technical Support cannot offer support for this driver.
The Phone Adapter for Skype cannot and never will support 64-bit versions of Windows 7.

  • Hello all, I also have an issue with Windows 7 and my usb port.

When I put my computer in sleep mode and turn it back on, all my usb peripherals are disconnected, modem, wacom tablet ect.. except my mouse and keyboard (which are wireless and use a usb dongle).

My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 with an Intel chipset.

Sometimes unplugging my modem and plugging it back would make windows recognize it with this morning I had to reboot as nothing would work, not even the leds on the modem would light up, just like there wasn't any power coming out the usb but enough for the keyboard to work.

So I came to the conclusion that the usb port don't wake when my computer wakes up... or there's a driver problem? I've installed the latest.

    Anyone with a solution?

    thank you!

  • Update on Zoom 5900 with Win 7 x64. Save yourself some time. Despite previous posts, cannot get this to work. I have tried every possible driver Zoom has, even tried downgrading my version of Skype and the best you can do is if you install the Visata x64 drivers, the box will connect to your computer, however, it will not connect to Skype... the phone always stays red.

Spoke with Zoom support and they inferred that they are dropping out of the Skype voice market - didn't sell enough.

Too bad because after testing Belkin and Ipevo phones, I can tell you that you get the best sound quality and features using this with a good desk phone on Win XP.

  • Hi Dale Qiao,

I'm one of the Alpha/Beta/RC/RTM testers for Windows 7. I just came upon a problem that hadn't occured
in any of my testing. It is concerning a Zoom Technologies 5900 Skype Adapter. I picked this device up recently for
some VOIP testing and found out that it WILL not work under Windows 7 (64 bit) This seems to myself as the most popular
version of Windows 7 (All flavors). I also took it upon myself to ask Zoom Technologies when they will have a driver availble
for Windows 7 (64 bit), and after 2 weeks to date no return answer to this. I'm not really sure how big an issue this is, but seems
to myself that all Microsoft Partners should of had drivers prepared for the offical release of Windows 7. I did however find a
Windows 7 (32 bit) driver on their website, thinking perhaps this could get their device working, was a no go. I think this issue
needs a quick answer turn over. According to Zoom Technologies website they have over 2 million users of their products, and
I can pretty much be sure out of those users atleast a 1/4 of them have this device, and Windows 7. If you have a chance can
    you look into this issue?

    Regards,
    Mike

  • Zoom Skype ATA Model 5900 Windows Vista 64 driver works for me in Windows 7 64x. I had a clean Windows 7 Prof SP1 install. No Zoom attached. Unzip 5900_v141059.exe (Windows Vista 64 bit). Run ...\Zoom_PhoneAdaptor\x64\Setup.exe. Start Skype. Connect Zoom.
