"Protected" Views and Tables in Project 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • HI Everyone,  this is driving me nuts.

I like to have a few custom views and tables, which take a while to setup and make look nice.  It appears that if I hide or unhide columns in a view, and then save my project, the view and table get saved along with it.

What I would like to do is "protect" my tables and views, to keep them read-only.

Any way to do this?  thanks! John

  • John,

Sorry, no can do. You can either protect the whole file (e.g. password), but not individual elements.

I suggest you make sure you have your custom settings also resident in your Global so that if those in the live file get edited, inadvertently of course, you can easily replace them from you Global.

I've found the best way to prevent "tampering" is twofold. First, set up a user training and lay out the groundrules. But since, "accidents" do happen, set up a set of audit routines to make sure everyone is towing the line, so to speak. Normally these audit routines are a set of macros that look for user errors.

    Hope this helps.
