Outlook 2003 / 2010 message body deletion after moving to Exchange 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an issue that has arisen with Oulook 2010 and Outlook 2003 clients accessing the same Exchange 2010 SP1 mailbox, here's our scenario a client has Outlook 2010 on their PC and Outlook 2003 on a terminal server or virtual machine both have the same result.

The mailboxes are all in the same Exchange 2010 database in the same DAG using the same PC's during the test.

Exchange 2010 mailbox opened in Outlook 2010 and 2010 OWA only works fine, my mailbox is has been in and working for 6 days without any loss of message bodies.

2nd user opened up mailbox in Outlook 2010 and OWA 2010 moved 4 days ago, no issues until - while having Outlook 2010 open or closed the user logs on a VM and opens Outlook 2003..... this then deletes the body of the message only this is both HTML and plain text emails randomly, we have emails in the same inbox from the same sender within a 5 min window that have not been deleted.

This has been tested and varified on the 2 mailboxes moved onto the new system.

A new client mailbox with emails in opened with Outlook 2003 works fine no body loss at all. This client has never used Outlook 2010 to open emails.

This leads me to believe that there must be message either corruption occuring when opening messages in older clients after or some sort of re-tagging happening after having opened them in Outlook 2010.

This has never been an issue within the Exchange 2007 systems that we run this is just happening to mailboxes moved to the 2010 system and only effects emails received after the mailbox resides on the Exchange 2010 system.

The message envelope is never deleted, message size never changes and message subject is still intact this is just effecting the content of the email.

We know that the message delivery is fine as the user receiving the email can open the recieved email, the body disapears after the earlier client version is opened.

My question is has anyone seen this type of behaviour or been able to resolve this type of issue before?

    Thanks in advance.

    Phil

  • This turned out to be our Antivirus product NOD32 version 4.0, if you are using this product the upgrade to v4.2 fixes this issue we have several people now on the new servers after upgrading AV to v4.2 and have not seen this issue after the upgrade.

    Thanks

How about access directly via outlook 2003?

So, the issue won’t happen to RTF message?

So, do you mean that the newly created mailbox on exchange 2010 server won’t appear such symptom?

Could you reproduce all the procedure on a newly created mailbox on exchange 2010 server, like open the mailbox and messages by using outlook 2010, and then try to do the same in outlook 2003 again?

The message body is still blank when user tries to access via OWA as well?

When a user only accesses the mailbox from a 2003 client the mailbox appears fine. This issue is only seen when a user opens a mailbox with outlook 2003 after having opened the same mailbox with outlook 2003

We do not use RTF messages in the business so this has not been tested.

The clients created on Exchange2010 do not experience this issue, only clients moved from our existing Exchange 2007 SP2 installation experience this issue.

Yes the message body when viewed in outlook 2003, 2010 or OWA appears blank.
