Vista will not install to any of my HDDs RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been trying to install Vista from both XP and the boot disk (I burned it). It will get through the product key and get up to the point where you select a hard disk to install on, I have done clean formats (NTFS) of disks from XP and tried to install it with the XP Professional disk manager program (compm... something) , I have also done clean formats from the boot disk after entering the key and tried to install there, and all fail saying that windows cannot find an acceptable partition to install on. I have both a 40GB and an 80GB ATA HDD which I have tried installing on, and neither worked. Is there any way to remedy this situation?

  • I had to go into my BIOS and add my SATA drive to the boot priority.

  • Have you tried uninstalling one of the hard drives? I had the same problem with Build 5600 and once I disconnected the ide and power cable to my second drive and reset the bios to read only the one hard drive, it installed without a problem.
