PolicyDefinitions Store Updates best practices

    Question

  • Hi all,

So I want to start preparing for Windows 10 GPO management. I've downloaded the Win10 ADMX templates and the V1551 ADMX templates and want to import these.

Are the MSI files backwards compatible...i.e. can I just unpack the V1551 file into my GP store to get the job done or do I need to unpack both the Win10 and the Win10_v1551 templates to have all the Win10 features in GPO?

Also I assume the only files I require in the PolicyDefinitions store folder are my preferred language folder EN-US and the base ADMX files. I can delete the other language folders to save space and keep my SYSVOL folder size down?

    Thanks in advance,

    durrie

  • Thanks Martin,

There are two downloads on the MS site for the Win10 ADMX files...out of interest if the version of Win10 is currently v1607 what does the '1551' refer to on the ADMX msi file for download?

To be honest, I have absolutely no clue :) But when I review https://www.microsoft.com/de-DE/download/details.aspx?id=48257 it says 1511 and not 1551 - and that is the first Update for Win10 back in November 2015.
