PWA site not working from outside RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using project server 2010 with shrarepoint 2010. I created the pwa site for project which is working fine inside the network so basically from inside when I go to http://project I get to the sharepoint site and when I go to http://project/IT it takes me to the pwa site.

I natted it thru my sonicwall firewall and now when I go to http://project.mydomain.org it takes me to the sharepoint site but when I try http://project.mydomain.org/IT which is supposed to be the pwa site I first get a prompt for the credentials and then I can error 404 page cannot be displayed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated?

  • So correct me if im wrong, but the DNS name of project.mydomain.com is an external DNS name. This would explain why you cant ping that DNS name internally. Once you have set up the SharePoint AAM for project.mydomain.com for the project web application and added the host name to the site bindings in IIS SharePoint will work on that new DNS name providing the machine you're testing from can resolve the name. A temporary test, add the following to the hosts file on the work station you are testing from:

    10.0.0.1      project.mydomain.com

Launch IE on that workstation then test accessing project.mydomain.com. This should now work, then all you need to do it configure the DNS resolution externally and internally (not related to SharePoint at this stage) so that you dont need the hosts file entry etc.

This post is for 2007 but explains how to set up external access via ISA:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc261814(office.12).aspx

Searching the internet for sharepoint 2010 external access etc. will give you lots of information :)

    Hope that helps

  • You will need to set up the host name on the site bindings in IIS as described in the second link.

    Thanks

  • If you ping itproject.mydomain.com does it resolve the correct IP address? To test SharePoint and IIS are set up correctly. Add a hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) entry to the workstation you are testing from that points itproject.mydomain.com to the IP address of the SharePoint web server.

    Thanks

  • The ip address of the sharepoint web server which is also the project server is 10.0.0.1. The server is called project and when I can ping it I get a reply from 10.0.0.1. I guess the part I am confused about is itproject.mydomain.com is sitting on the same server so which IP address should be tied to the url itproject.mydomain.com or project.mydomain.com.

Again http://project is working fine internally and brings up the sharepoint site

http://project/IT work fine internally as well and brings the project server

However after natting http://project.mydomain.com , when I access from outside I get to the shareoint site but when I tried http://project.mydomain.com/IT , I get error 404 page cannot be found. I was told I needed an AAM which I created and called it itproject.mydomain.com however I am unable to browse it internally and when I ping it I don't get any reply. Here is the content of the hosts file:

    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself

    #    127.0.0.1 localhost

    #     ::1 localhost

Appreciate all your help on this!

  • Did you figure it out why PWA is not working?

I have the same situation. I can access SharePoint sites internally and from outside (internet) without any issue but not able to open PWA page from outside. I have no issue to access PWA internally. All the DNS and firewall rule is working good. It seems like i need to configure something specifically for PWA as well what i am missing here.

    Can anybody suggest?
