  • Hi,

If this problem happens after installing SharePoint update, please try to manually run PSCONFIG and check the result.

Detail steps you may reference blog - YOU MUST MANUALLY RUN PSCONFIG AFTER INSTALLING SHAREPOINT 2010 PATCHES:
    http://blogs.msmvps.com/bradley/2011/05/25/you-must-manually-run-psconfig-after-installing-sharepoint-2010-patches/

If the problem persists, open CMD, type “vssadmin list writers” and check the result.

    Best Regards,
    Eve Wang

  • Hello Mohammed,

Please check out this article, it states several possible reasons that the VSS can fail:

    https://www.backupassist.com/support/en/knowledgebase/BA954-Volume-Shadow-Copy-Error-0x800423f4-writer-error-non-retryable.html?cshid=BA954

Since the specific error in your log shows the SPSEarch4 as the culprit, try this:

    1. Open the command prompt as administrator.
    2. Go  to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\BIN
    3. Execute the following command:

PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures
