SharePoint 2010 - Receiving a message "Getting list of available content types..." on the status bar within MS Word 2010 and unable to save the document in SharePoint Library RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

A lot of users accessing a particular site within our SharePoint 2010 setup are experiencing this issue. They have a custom Word Template associated with a Document Library. While creating a new document, they are able to save it the first time, but a message shows on the status bar of Word 2010 saying "Getting a list of available content types..." and stays there endlessly.

The document does not get saved upon subsequent updates, and comes back with an error saying that it is "Locked" by the same user trying to modify it.

At first we thought that it was the default 10-minute read lock on the document, but the lock remains for a much longer duration.

We have a similar pre-production setup, and this issue is not experienced on the exact same document template in pre-production environment.

I have found a couple of posts online, indicating that a Cumulative update for SP2007 resolved the issue. Any idea regarding SharePoint 2010?

Edit: This link addresses the same issue, but is on SP2007/Word2007, do we have any guidance for SP2010/Word2010? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/241991/saving-word-2007-to-moss-gives-never-ending-getting-list-of-available-content-t#new-answer
