Cloning Windows 10 to SSD Issue.

    Question

  • I purchased a new PC recently, and a Samsung EVO 850 250GB SSD drive as well.  I have the cable hooked up through my SSD drive and into my USB port, installed the data migration software, and Samsung magician.  The disk was not online or initialized, so I assumed I had to format the SSD before continuing so my computer would recognize it.  I right clicked on the drive in disk management and made it online, and then initialized the disk.  After that i could format and assign a letter to it.  Everything seemed fine. I went back into the data migration software to clone the drive and again both drives show up.

As soon as I click start it goes for maybe 10 seconds and than stops saying the cloning failed and an error code of 0000-fffff or something similar.  I go to check on the disk in my PC, and it has disappeared, and I check disk management and it has gone back to an offline state and is no longer initialized.

Any help or advice on how to finish this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You,

    John

  • Hi ,

It seems that you are trying to clone Windows 10 system using third party software. Please note: cloning Windows system is not in our support scope, Microsoft does not provide support for cloning system. It is a third party utility. Your best bet is contacting the data migration software and Samsung support for help. It is their responsibility to provide support for their own product.

In addition, if your main purpose is replacing the hard drive, Windows 10 has a built-in feature to backup and restore image, we could try to create an Image Backup then restore the backup to your new SSD. Check if it works.
