Problem with SharePoint and hyperlinks “breaking” within documents when a file is checked out. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a user that is having a problem with a SharePoint and hyperlinks “breaking”(seems more like truncating) within documents when a file is checked out.  The only thing we identified was when we click on the “Check Out” option it automatically defaults to using the user’s local drafts folder, which has always been the case; nothing has changed recently.  If the user removes the check mark from the box, the hyperlinks are maintained within the document.

  • Hi Joshua,

What did the "breaking" hyperlinks in document look like when checked ti to local drafts folder?

Did only one user have this issue?

Did all SharePoint libraries have this issue?

You can perferm a "repair" for Office 2007 from client PC, and check result again.

And you can also change the "draft location" option from Office 2007 application, and see if it works.

  • The breaking link appeared to be truncated to relative links, and I know this is somewhat of a known issue when moving Word docs....

What the user is confused about is why this started suddenly... I dont know either.

This affecting all users, and all libraries in a specific site.

What had the user do was to change the option in office to default to checking out docs on the server, rather than the local drafts folder, as none of them have any need to work offline.  This seems to work, and will be acceptable for the small user audience.
