Unable to switch SCVMM server in SSP 2.0 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I try to switch SCVMM servers in SSP 2.0 under "Settings"->"VMM Server". Everytime I made the change , then saved the change. But it kept showing me the old SCVMM server when I tried to create the template. Any ideas?

  • Hi Dean,

Whenever you change the SCVMM server name in the Settings section (Configure data center page), you need to restart the service. This is required because the web component communicates with the server component (the service) for any information collection. The service in turns establishes connection with the SCVMM server and retrieve any content that might be appropriate to the specific situation.

Due to performance reasons, the server component (the service) caches an already established SCVMM server connection and re-uses it till the connection is lost/dropped for whatever reason. In this scenario, you specified an older SCVMM server name in the settings section (call it SCVMM01), retrieved templates from the SCVMM01 (at this time the service component established connection to the older SCVMM server and cached it). Then you changed the SCVMM server name in the settings section (call it SCVMM02). Then you tried to query the templates. Since you didnt restart the service, the service attempted to retrieve content from the cached connection (pointing to the SCVMM01 - the older server).

So make sure that whenever you change the SCVMM server name in the settings section, you restart the service as well else the service might retrieve content from a cached SCVMM server which might not be the correct one since you changed the server name.

    Hope this helps.
